A few days back, one of my old pediatric patient, Vikas (name changed to protect identity), came with his mother. Vikas is 9 years old. He used to see me for Asthmatic bronchitis. He was successfully cured with Homoeopathy and was enjoying every food and festival without complications.
When he came to me yesterday, he was a different child. He was nervous, frightful, sad and had developed his wheezing again. His mom had to restart Inhaler puffs for the last couple of days! His mother tearfully said, ‘Vikas just doesn’t leave me at all, he fears going in lifts, rickshaw even doesn’t sit alone in his own room, denies going to school…even passed urine in school uniform which never happened earlier.’
His mother had no idea what and how it all happened to him!! After probing she found out the reason!
Vikas was terribly scolded and beaten up by his teacher in his school. He was punished for just sharing a pencil with his bench mate, he was made to stand up on bench for two periods consecutively where he passed urine in his clothes, out of fright and embarrassment!
He was also punished for scoring less marks whereas his parents are absolutely okay with whatever he used to score!!!
The mother met the principal and authorities to take action against the teachers. Nobody listened. Other parents, of same the school, joined as even their kids were beaten up and punished, all in vain!!
What is the solution to this? Will the teacher pay for the pain she inflicted on young Vikas?
Every child is a gift and blessing of god, no two teachers have the same potential and performance!
Teachers are the second parent, they need to understand the power they hold in moulding or breaking a child. It is a huge responsibility. Not all are meant to be teachers, you may be qualified but you don’t necessarily have the skill, patience, aptitude, empathy or knowledge to be a good teacher. If you don’t have the patience or empathy to be a teacher, do not make a career out of it. You will be responsible in breaking so many futures.
A teacher shows kindness and has the understanding of nurturing each child differently and it is their job to understand the differences.
Are children criminals? Do they need treatments that will scar them for the rest of their lives?
Even a mentally challenged student or a child with learning disabilities can be taught with love, care, affection and patience!
Requesting all teachers and parents to ban all physical and psychological punishments on our little angels! It creates an irreversible damage to the child’s identity and self respect! The child will suffer for their whole life.
I will cure Vikas with Homoeopathy totally but not every punished child gets proper medical and personal rehabilitation.
Understand the gravity of your actions, be a little more emphatic. You are dealing with minors who have a mind as clear as the sky. You need to help them fly not break them apart.
Parents must raise their voice against such incidences without any fears; it is better to miss a year than missing the living in life!
